On the participation of the YSC IAfr RAS in the Second Economic and Humanitarian Forum Russia – Africa

Members of the Young Scholars Council (YSC) of the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IAfr RAS) took part in the Second Economic and Humanitarian Forum Russia – Africa, which was held in St. Petersburg on July 27-28. The delegation of the YSC IAfr RAS included the chairman, Senior Research Fellow, Ph.D. in Economics Vasily Sidorov, Deputy Chairmen – Research Fellow, Ph.D. in Economics Andrey Barinov and Junior Research Fellow Gleb Sugakov, as well as Junior Research Fellows Nikolai Andreev, Tamara Andreeva, Arseniy Arutyunyan, Andrey Berezhnov, Varvara Mitina, Alexander Novikov, Daria Turyanitsa and Anna Semenova.

On the morning of July 27, before the start of the official part of the event, the Deputy Chairman of the YSC IAfr RAS, a Junior Research Fellow Gleb Sugakov, and Junior Research Fellow Andrey Berezhnov took part in the “We Discover” race, which took place in Primorsky Victory Park as part of the Forum’s sports program. The race was organized by the sports platform of the Roscongress Foundation “RK-Sport” and the “League of Heroes” with the support of the Russian Ministry of Sports.

On July 28, the Chairman of the YSC IAfr RAS, Senior Research Fellow, Ph.D. in Ecomomics Vasily Sidorov spoke at the session “Building a Common Future: educational and scientific opportunities of Russia for Africa.” During his speech, the scientist spoke about the experience of participating in a joint grant with South Africa, noting that this was only one of sixteen grants received as a result of the Russian-South African competition. This experience of joint grants could well be extended to Africa as a whole, he believes.

Also on July 28, Vasily Sidorov gave an interview to the St. Petersburg TV channel and spoke in it about what scientific issues were resolved at the forum.
