On October 26, 2022, a scientific conference with international participation "Deradicalization of Islamists: theory and practice (international and Russian experience)" was held at the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The organizer of the conference is the Center for Civilizational and Regional Studies.

Three sections worked at the conference: "Deradicalization of Islamists: theory, methodology, the historiography of the problem" (moderators - Igor Sledzevsky, leading researcher, Doctor of History, Professor, Head of the Center for Civilizational and Regional Studies of the Institute Africa of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Elena Kharitonova, Ph.D. in Psychology, senior researcher at the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences); “Deradicalization of Islamists: the experience of Russia and the CIS countries” (moderator - Naima Neflyasheva, Ph.D., senior researcher, associate professor of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences), “Deradicalization of Islamists: the experience of African, European and USA” (moderator – Olga Karpacheva, Ph.D., a researcher at the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

At the conference, 25 reports were heard and the following questions were brought up for discussion:

    - radicalization of Muslims and deradicalization of Islamists: methodological and theoretical approaches
    - programs and practices of deradicalization of Islamists (international experience)
    - the role of the family, civil society, and religious authorities in the processes of de-radicalization of Islamists in the republics of the North Caucasus and Tatarstan
    - gender dimension of deradicalization of Islamists
    - the main problems in the implementation of deradicalization programs

The conference was attended by scientists and experts from the Institute for African Studies RAS, IGH RAS, Moscow State Psychological and Pedagogical University, National Research University - Higher School of Economics, MAE.
