May 11, 2022 Celebration of Victory Day at the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences

On May 11, the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences celebrated the 77th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Employees of different generations gathered again in the conference hall to celebrate the Holiday that unites us all.

The speech of a veteran of the Institute for African Studies, a participant in the war, and a leading researcher of the Institute, Aida Nikolaevna Moseyko, was at the center of attention. With great attention and empathy, the audience listened to her memories of the hardest years in which she, still a teenager, but on an equal footing with adults, had to work not only in the rear but also close to the front.

Each of the participants of the meeting, probably at that time, also remembered one of their close or distant relatives who fought at the front or worked in the rear. The Honorary President of the Institute for African Studies, Academician Alexei Mikhailovich Vasiliev shared his memories of that time, and the Director of the Institute, the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Olegovna Abramova, spoke about her veteran relatives.

A strong emotional end to the evening was prepared by the daughter of A.N. Moseiko, a senior researcher at the Institute, Elena Vladimirovna Kharitonova, and members of her family, two documentaries about the Great Patriotic War and its heroes.

There can be no doubt: that there were no indifferent people in the hall; on the contrary, there was a much-needed atmosphere of unity. This was also manifested in sincere applause, which was thanked by the staff of the institute A.N. Moseiko and reacted to the presentation of a bouquet to Aida Nikolaevna from the staff of the institute.

I would like to thank all the staff of the Institute for African Studies, who participated in the preparation and holding of this Celebration.

Chairman of the Council of Veterans of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, senior researcher, retired colonel A. Tokarev.
