Parliamentary elections in Egypt

Parliamentarism in Egypt has a history of over 150 years. On October 22, 1866, Khedive Ismail established the Consultative Council of Representatives in the country - the first elected body with representative functions, the procedural rules of which initially gave its members the right only to familiarize themselves with the state of public finances. However, soon the rights of the elected parliamentarians began to expand and, in accordance with the current Constitution, adopted in January 2014, at the moment they have rather broad powers.
