July 30, 2023 Interview with Irina Abramova, Director of the IAfr RAS, “Russia is turning towards Africa”

We present the Second Summit Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum held in St. Petersburg through the eyes of its participants. Director of the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Abramova moderated the plenary session of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum on the first day of the summit. In the program "What's Going On?" magazine "International Affairs" she shared her impressions of this large-scale event.

In particular, the guest noted that the decisions taken at the summit on an extensive and detailed program of trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation with African countries, including 181 points, are of an applied nature. They showed that the meeting was very specific, pragmatic, and substantive, and many African countries have long been waiting for our country to return to multifaceted cooperation. Moreover, according to many experts, in the 21st century, Africa, freed from colonial oppression and gaining its agency in world affairs, can become the most dynamically and rapidly developing region of the world.
