The Center's Principal Areas and Directions of Research:

• The role and place of Africa in the formation of a new world order; Changing foreign policies of the African countries; The nations of Africa in international bodies; the African countries’ political lines in the UN and their stances towards the UN reform.
• Russia and Africa in the context of the contemporary international relations; Russia's spheres of interests in Africa; the Russian-African cooperation in the international arena; Russia’s political, cultural and scientific links to African countries.
• Russia’s multi-facet cooperation with Africa: economy and trade, investment, and the military sphere. The Russian companies’ engagement with Africa and the development of their business links. The analysis of drivers and deterrents.
• The Africa policies of the leading Western and Eastern powers (the security-development nexus in the politico-economic dialogue between the EU and Africa; the changing Africa policy of the US; the ‘soft power’ and ‘hard power’ of the West in Africa; the advancing China’s engagement with Africa).
• The conflict situations and political crises in Africa (the foreign political perspective); the African architecture of peace and security; Russia’s contribution to peace- and security-building in Africa.
