Publishing activities

Over the 60 years of the existence of the Institute, its research fellows have produced more than 1,500 publications, including monographs, collections of works, reference books, brochures, memoirs, articles and conference proceedings. Every year the IAS publishes over 15 individual and collective monographs, many of which become notable milestones in the history of Russian and global African Studies and Arab studies.

The books offer the latest findings in the fields of economics, international relations, geography, political science, sociology, history, ethnology, cultural studies in African and Arab contexts.

In addition to monographs and collections of works, the IAS issues continued editions (“Africa in Reminiscences of Veterans of Diplomatic Service”, “Gender Studies”, “Civilizational Dimensions”).

The Institute publishes the only specialized journal in Russia on Africa – “Journal of the Institute for African Studies” (Editor-in-Chief – Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Leonid Fituni); acts as a co-founder of the journals “Asia and Africa Today” (editor-in-chief – honorary president of the IAfr RAS, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexey Vasiliev) and “Vostok (Oriens)”.

Printed products of the IAS are provided free of charge to research libraries and other similar establishments, or are dispatched to foreign centres of African Studies via the system of book exchange.
