28 - 30 November 2023 First International Conference "Security, Resource Control and Democracy in Africa"

Calls are now open for submission of abstracts for the First International Conference on Security, Resource Control and Democracy in Africa hosted by the School of Military Science of the University of Namibia in collaboration with Professor Toyin Faiola (University of Texas).

Africa is endowed with abundant natural resources and has the unique potential of becoming the most developed and advanced region in the world. This three-day Hybrid (Blended) international conference intends to address critical questions on political unrest, terrorism, extreme political and ideological formations, and civil wars related to the extraction and exploitation of resources and thus, the larger economy and market impacting Africa's safety and security. Scholars around the world are invited to share their research contributions and ongoing projects from diverse aspects of security dilemma and resources management as well as democratization and democratic consolidation. Other subthemes will include issues relating to aviation and marine resources exploitation.

The conference will provide a networking platform for researchers, scientists, policy makers, government officials, educators and all interested parties from various disciplines and geographical locations to physically and virtually interact, engage, share experiences, exchange ideas, discuss topical and emerging issues as well as exploring best practices and solutions relating to security, resource control and democracy in Africa. Submitted abstracts will be assigned to scientific panels according to the similarities in sub-themes. The conference will particularly welcome postgraduate students and emerging scholars to attend and present their work. The conference intends to support publications from selected presentations .

SUBMISSIONS ARE INVITED ON THE FOLLOWING SUB-THEMES:
1. Resource governance and distribution
2. Land, legacy, security, and the state in Africa
3. Nationalism, regionalism, and identity politics
4. Sustainable development and industrialisation agenda in Africa
5. Environment security and water resources management
6. Climate change, conflict, and security issues
7. Migration, human rights, and labour politics in Africa
8. Globalisation, illegal economies, and illicit financial markets
9. Human trafficking, terrorism, organised crime in Africa
10. Aviation safety and security in Africa

FORMATS FOR THE ABSTRACT:
Each individual abstract submitted should adhere to the following requirements: (a) not exceeding 200 words in length, including 3-5 keywords; (b) reflect the title of the work, names of all authors and their institutional or organizational affiliations; (c) bears the email address of only the corresponding author (with the name of the presenter underlined); (d) typed using 12 point Times New Roman; and
(e) submitted in a Microsoft Word Document.

For panel sessions theme abstracts (3-5 presenters): (a) title of the panel and a collective summary of 250 words on the panel's theme, including the title of each individual work; (b) a 200-word abstract for the presentation of each speaker, including 3-5 keywords; (c) names of all authors and their institutional or organizational affiliations per abstract; (d) bears the email address of only the corresponding author (with the name of the presenter underlined) per abstract; (e) typed using 12 point Times New Roman; and (f) submitted in a Microsoft Word Document.
