Legislative Election 2020 on Comoros: Federalism and Centralization

In two rounds - on January 19 and February 23, 2020, parliamentary elections were held in the Union of the Comoros (UC). The vast majority of seats in the Assembly of the JCE, the country's highest legislative body, received the Union for the renewal of Comoros (Convention pour le renouveau des Comores, CRC), the party of incumbent President Azalee Assumani, re-elected in 2019 for a five-year term. The results of the current elections are the logical result of a long-term tense socio-political process in the archipelago: this is a series of military coups and authoritarian regimes, outbreaks of separatism, several constitutions, reformatting of FIRCO (Federal Islamic Republic of Comoros) into the North Kazakhstan region, and unsuccessful attempts to fix the status quo.
