On April 11, 2019, an expert session "The Prospects for the Establishment and Operation of a Free Trade Zone between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Arab Republic of Egypt" was held at the site of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) in preparation for the Eurasian-Egyptian business forum scheduled for this year.

The event was attended by almost 100 representatives of various organizations, including the EEC, ministries, business and expert communities of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

One of the five keynote speakers was the Group Head, Senior Fellow, Center for Global and Strategic Studies, Ph.D. K.Aleshin, who reported on "The Prospects of the Egypt’s Market for Exports from the EAEU."

During the event, the following issues were also discussed: the current state of the negotiation process on the FTZ Agreement, barriers in trade and economic relations with Egypt, the export potential of small and medium-sized businesses of the EAEU, the possibility of participation of the Eurasian business community representatives in the Russian Industrial Zone in Egypt, etc.

Following the keynote speeches, a thorough exchange of views took place. It is expected that the proposals, developed during the session, will be considered in the preparation for the EAEU-Egypt business forum and the negotiations of the EEC with the Egyptian party.
