International Africanist Conference Announcement

The 15th conference of Africanists entitled ‘The Destinies of Africa in the Modern World’ will be held 24–26 May 2021 in a combined online/offline format to coincide with the Africa Day, celebrated annually on the continent on 25 May.

This year's conference is of great scientific and practical importance. It is being organized by the Institute of Africa of the Russian Academy of Sciences together with the Roscongress Foundation with the support of TASS. More than 500 researchers and experts from Russia, Africa, EU countries, America, Asia, Australia, and Oceania will participate.

In total, the programme provides for 48 sections dedicated to the trends of development of Africa, the national economy and technological development, socio-political problems, new challenges and threats, the state of international relations of the continent and options for strengthening Russia–Africa relations, the history of the continent, anthropology, linguistics, and more.

The conference will open with a plenary session, which will start at 10:00 Moscow time (UTC+3) on 24 May 2021. Government representatives from the Russian Federation and the African Union, members of the business and expert communities, as well as media representatives from Russia and Africa will discuss current Russian-African cooperation agenda and development of appropriate proposals.

The Russian side will be represented by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairwoman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Olga Timofeeva; Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov; Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Natalia Bocharova; Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Alexey Gruzdev; Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Evgeny Primakov; Vice President of the Russian Academy of Science Academician Yuri Balega; Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Academician Alexey Vasiliev; TASS Director General Sergei Mikhailov; Russian Export Center CEO Veronika Nikishina; Senator of the Russian Federation and Chairman of Coordination Committee for Economic Cooperation with African Countries Igor Morozov; Chairman of the Association of Economic Cooperation with African States (AECAS) Alexander Saltanov; Managing Director for Multilateral Cooperation and Integration of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Sergey Mikhnevich.

The African side will be represented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Christophe Lutundula Apala; Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology at African Union Commission Sarah Anyang Agbor; President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) Dr. Benedict Okey Oramah; Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cameroon to the Russian Federation H.E. Mahamat Paba Sale and Rector of the Free University of Kinshasa, Prof. Jean Michel Kumbu.
