This monograph examines the development of integration processes in East Africa during the colonial period, the creation and dissolution of the East African Community (EAC 1.0, 1967-1977), its revival (EAC 2.0, 1999-2025), and current integration dynamics. Particular attention is paid to the overlapping membership of EAC partner countries in other subregional economic and security organizations (COMESA, SADC, ECCAS, SENSAD, IGAD, ICGRO, EARC). The issue of overlapping membership is also explored in the context of the development of the Tripartite Dialogue (EAC-COMESA-SADC), the construction of the African Continental Free Trade Area, and the signing of economic partnership agreements within the EU-ACP dialogue. Key infrastructure projects in the region (the Northern and Central Corridors, the North-South Corridor, and Lamu) are analyzed in the context of regional integration, as well as the prospects for the formation of a single energy market. Finally, the process of developing the defense identity of EAC countries and their participation in other subregional peace and security organizations is examined.

This publication is intended for researchers, postgraduate students, and anyone interested in African integration from the perspective of history, political science, and law.
