On October 12, 2025, Cameroon held presidential elections, and the incumbent head of state, Paul Biya (Paul Barthélemy Biya'a bi Mvondo), a Francophone and southerner of Beti ethnicity, won—expectedly for some, unexpectedly for others. The significance of this presidential election is truly historic. This country, with a population of approximately 30 million, is a key player in the Central African region; Cameroon's neighbors are closely monitoring the domestic political situation in the republic. The election results will determine whether the era of Paul Biya, who has ruled Cameroon for almost 43 years, will end or continue. Taking into account his tenure as prime minister under President Ahmadou Ahidjo, Paul Biya has held the country's highest office for a total of half a century. Cameroon has only had two presidents in its history.
