9 June 2025 lecture by D.A. Zelenova on ‘Strengthening African agency in BRICS: can African participation in the association strengthen multipolarity?’.

On 9 June, the University of South Africa UNISA hosted a lecture by D.A. Zelenova, Head of the Centre for African Strategy in BRICS, IAS RAS, on ‘Strengthening African agency in BRICS: Can African participation in the alliance strengthen multipolarity?’

D.A. Zelenova emphasized the important role of South Africa in the association as a key promoter of the pan-African agenda and spoke about the initiatives and projects of the recent Russian BRICS Chairmanship aimed at strengthening African subjectivity and sovereignty.

The discussion was moderated by South African Professor of History Sifiso M. Ndlovu, and the students were also addressed by Professor Boitmelo Senokoane, Executive Director of the University of South Africa's Department of Institutional Advancement, and Mr Nkosinathi Mabilane, President of the University's Student Council. The lecture was followed by a lengthy question and answer session and discussion with students, who demonstrated a high level of knowledge of the international agenda and showed great interest in further study of Russian-African foreign policy relations.
