Participation of the Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Ceremony Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Patrice Lumumba's Birth

On July 2, 2025, the Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), member of the RAS Presidium, Corresponding Member of the RAS, Doctor of Economics, and Professor Irina Abramova took part in a ceremonial event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Patrice Émery Lumumba.

The commemorative ceremony was held at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), which bears the name of the Congolese political leader who has forever entered the pages of history. The event brought together prominent political and public figures, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps from both Russia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Abramova’s address was one of the central elements of the official program. In her speech, the Director of the Institute for African Studies emphasized the significance of Patrice Lumumba’s historical legacy for the entire African continent, as well as the role of the academic community in strengthening Russia-Africa cooperation.
