On May 27, 2025 in the framework of the seminar of the Centre for History and Cultural Anthropology “Culture and Society” was given the report of Evgeny Morozov, senior researcher, PhD in Historical Sciences “African objects collected by Russian expeditions to Ethiopia in the late XIX – early XX centuries, in the collection of the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences”.
In his report, E. Morozov noted that the study of the books of collection receipts and their inventories revealed 31 collections of Ethiopian origin with a total volume of 5047 storage units, including 2413 items of material culture, 2525 negatives and photographs, 109 paintings and drawings. The speaker studied and presented biographies of military men, doctors, diplomats, travelers and collectors, gave characteristics of their collections, identifying and demonstrating images of the most interesting and unique exhibits. The Ethiopian collections of the Kunstkamera have been little introduced into scientific circulation. Objects of material culture, manuscripts and images require further study as valuable sources on the history of the peoples of Ethiopia from the late 19th to the first third of the 20th centuries.
