November 22, 2022 Report by Nadezhda Khokholkova and Valentina Bryndina within the framework of the scientific seminar "Culture and Society"

On November 22, 2022, at the scientific seminar of the Center for History and Cultural Anthropology "Culture and Society", Nadezhda Khokholkova and Valentina Bryndina "Historical memory of European colonialism in modern Tanzania: a report on the 2021 expedition", prepared with the support of the RRFBR within the framework of project No. 18-18-00454 "Historical memory as a factor in the evolution of socio-political systems (Sub-Saharan Africa and Mesoamerica)".

The presentation focused on a field study conducted in November 2021 in Tanga and Dar es Salaam (United Republic of Tanzania). The authors focus on the ideas of Tanzanians about two periods of history, covering a total of just under 80 years and associated with the activities of the German and British administrations. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying similarities and differences in the images of German colonialists and British protectors, formed among modern Tanzanians.
