On March 10, 2021 Zinaida Ivanovna TOKAREVA passed away.

Zinaida Ivanovna was one of the first employees of the Institute for African Studies. Her invaluable experience as an economist and administrator, acquired during the years of service in the State Commission for Foreign Economic Relations, was very useful in the work of the new institute. Since 1965 ZI Tokareva was the scientific secretary of the institute. For some time, Zinaida Ivanovna supervised the postgraduate course.

Her erudition, a wide range of modern and historical problems that Zinaida Ivanovna raised in her writings, have earned her indisputable authority and boundless respect.

Here are just a few examples of her multi-page encyclopedic monographs: Republic of Congo, 1962; Cote D'Ivoire, 1990; “Mauritius”, 1992; Reunion, 1998.

No less worthy, Zinaida Ivanovna represented our country at international scientific events and abroad, remaining open and understandable to foreign scientists.

A clear mind and love for Russian science helped Zinaida Ivanovna to continue to do her favorite job even in old age.

The name of Zinaida Ivanovna Tokareva will take a worthy place and will be immortalized in all subsequent editions of the encyclopedia "Africa".
