The presented work is a study of family and marriage relations in the states of North Africa, where noticeable changes take place not only among the upper and middle strata of the population, but sometimes in rural areas. In urban conditions, traditional stereotypes are changing, polygamy is sharply limited (or, as in Tunisia, it is officially prohibited), a tendency towards the transition from an extended family to a nuclear family is steadily manifesting, in connection with an increase in the level of education, the average age at marriage also rises, the number of children in the family decreases, the desire of newlyweds to live separately from their parents is increasing, the phenomenon of celibacy for both women and men and many other phenomena are increasing in number.

At the same time, in the region, along with changes in the matrimonial sphere, centuries-old traditional practices and customs based on the provisions of the Sharia or even more ancient pre-Islamic institutions are preserved.

The monograph was written on the basis of a large number of foreign sources, studies and articles in domestic and foreign scientific periodicals. It is designed for both specialists and a wide range of readers interested in topical problems of the family and family and marriage relations in the modern world.
