The 60th Anniversary of the Institute for African Studies (RAS)

On December 3, 2019, a solemn meeting was held in the Great Hall of the Institute to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Representatives of state legislative and executive bodies, ministries and departments of the Russian Federation, the leadership of the Russian Academy of Sciences and its institutes, many Russian universities, ambassadors of African countries accredited in Moscow, representatives of business and public organizations arrived to congratulate the Institute on the glorious date.

Director of the Institute for African Studies Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Economics Professor I. O. Abramova opened the celebrations by reading the text of the congratulatory telegram from the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin to the Institute. It voiced a high assessment of the work of the Institute, which, as noted in the telegram, "has firmly established itself among the world's leading centers for the study of the African continent." The telegram contains a high assessment of the work of the Institute’s scientists, whom the head of state considers "a team of unique specialists distinguished by high professionalism, systemic and creative approach to the problems of modern African studies," whose works are "invariably in demand by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, many other Russian state departments, help in solving important foreign policy and foreign economic problems. This was fully confirmed during the preparation of the recent Russia-Africa Summit, which marked the emergence of relations between our country and African partners to a qualitatively new level. " V.V. Putin stressed the high importance of a comprehensive scientific study of the processes taking place in the African region, and expressed confidence in the telegram that "the staff of the Institute will cope with the task with honor." In conclusion of the message, the President of the country wished the team of the Institute further success and all the best.
