Guinea-Bissau 2019 Presidential Election

On November 24, 2019, the first round of the presidential election was held in Guinea-Bissau. In the second round, candidates from the African Independence Party of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) - Domingos Simoins Pereira and from the opposition party "Movement Democratic Alternative G-15" (DDA) - Umar Sisku Embalo. Both are former prime ministers of the country in 2014–2015 and 2016–2018. Interestingly, two more former heads of government participated in the elections - Carlos Junior Gomes and Basir Jah. Thus, of the 12 participants in the presidential race, at least a few were experienced politicians who held high party and government posts over the years.
