In December 2018, another presidential election was held in Madagascar. According to the current Constitution of Madagascar, the head of state - the President - is the “guarantor” of national independence and territorial integrity, he is elected by direct universal suffrage for a period of 5 years and can be re-elected only once.

The presidential elections in Madagascar (if it was not a second term, but a change of leader) often became the beginning or end of crisis situations on the island.
