21st of March 2016, the Africa Day at Public Policy Department in HSE

Africa which we all know as a cradle of human race is the continent with the population of more than 1 billion people, with amazing nature and wildlife and unique history. However, many aspects of life and history of the African continent are not so well known by the inhabitants of the rest of the world. The Russian Federation, and its predecessor - the USSR, had built the unique strategic relationship with many African countries, and stood together in fight against colonialism.
The Student Council of the Department organizes the Africa Day. The event will begin with an interdisciplinary lecture that will unite experts, practitioners and researchers, and will be devoted to the history of Africa, its economy, politics and culture.
Next, there will be a panel discussion, which the representatives from several African States- the Embassy workers in Moscow agreed to attend. Diplomats will discuss the international relations on and beyond the continent, Africa’s contribution to resolving global problems, latest trends, the question how Africa can contribute to the peace and development on our planet.
After a short coffee break, the guests will be given the opportunity to take part in practical discussion session during which the two groups will discuss the topic proposed by the experts in front of the jury and the audience.
The last part of the event is dedicated to the African artwork, poetry, prose and the achievements of African culture. The HSE students, who are the representatives of the African continent, will familiarize everyone with the legacy of the Nobel Prize winners Wole Soyinka, Mahfouz Naguib, Wangari Maathai and many others.
A more detailed program will be published anytime soon.
