May 16, 2023 X International scientific and practical conference of young scientists "Scientific research of young scientists: development trends in conditions of uncertainty"
On May 16, 2023, based on St. Petersburg State University of Economics (SPbSEU), the X International Scientific and Practical Conference of Young Scientists "Scientific Research of Young Scientists: Development Trends under Uncertainty" was held, co-organized by the Young Scholars Council of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (YSC IAFr RAS).
The main objectives of the event were the development of scientific potential and the intensification of research activities among young people, as well as the strengthening of international scientific cooperation. Reports on a wide range of topics in the social and human sciences were presented by more than 170 students, graduate students, teachers, and young researchers from Russia and foreign countries, whose work took place in 19 sections of the conference.
Gleb Sugakov, Junior Research Fellow of the Center for Global and Strategic Studies, IAfr RAS, Deputy. Chairman of the YSC IAfr RAS had a report named: “The Development of the Russian-African Relationships on the eve of the Second Russia-Africa Summit”. During the speech, the trade, economic, investment, and humanitarian ties of Russia with the countries of the continent at the current stage of preparation for the Summit and the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, which will be held on July 26-29, 2023 in St. Petersburg, the city of this conference, were considered.
YSC of IAfr RAS acted as the organizer of two sections on African issues, which were attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, as well as universities of St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Saint-Petersburg State University, North-Western Institute of Management of RANEPA), Moscow (Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, All-Russian Academy of Foreign Trade), Kazan (University of Management “TISBI”).
Researchers from the IAfr RAS also made presentations: within the framework of the section “Development of Russian-African Relations: Prospects and Priorities” (moderator: Gleb Sugakov), research papers by the Junior Research Fellow of the Centre for Global and Strategic Studies, IAfr RAS Andree Berezhnov and Gleb Sugakov; within the framework of the section "Africa in the modern world: economics, politics and the humanitarian sphere" (moderator: Andrei Barinov, PhD in Economics, Researcher at the Centre for Global and Strategic Studies of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Chairman of the YSC of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences ) — Anna Semenova, Junior Research Fellow at Centre for North African and African Horn Studies of the IAfr RAS, Varvara Mitina, Nikolay Andreev (both - Junior Research Fellows of the Centre for Global and Strategic Studies of the Institute of Strategic Studies of the Institute of Afrophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences) and Andrei Barinov
The participants of the sections on African issues noted their high practical significance since based on the reports presented and the discussion held (including with the participation of representatives of Cameroon and Chad - Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University of Russia graduate students), specific recommendations were formulated to assess the perception of Russia in the countries of the continent, improve the investment image African countries in Russia and areas of cooperation, in particular, in the field of education, transport infrastructure projects, agriculture, digitalization of the economy and solving security problems. As a result of the conference, it is planned to publish a collection of articles and materials.
