Republic of Chad: before and after the 2021 presidential elections

April 2021 marked a turning point in the history of modern Chad. On April 11, presidential elections were held, demonstrating for the sixth time the advantage of incumbent President Idris Deby (the “Mouvement patriotique du salut” party), who received 79.32% of the vote with a turnout of 64.81% (population of the country – 17.4 million people, about 7.4 million voters are registered). Nine candidates running for the post of head of state could not compete with him.
